Quicklinks

This week’s Friday Quicklinks are bought to you . . . on Saturday.
- One chicken, three meals: I like this series from British Larder based on what you can do with one chicken. The food is not easy, but I think it’s an imaginative and different approach to cooking a chook. Here’s the second part and the third.
- Oat and coconut pudding: Lovely idea from Health Nut of turning an Indian rice pudding into an oat pudding. And thanks to Ganga for suggesting it.
- The food we waste: I’ve read overseas stats on how much food is wasted, but now there are figures from closer to home – how much food we waste in Sydney. And it’s not good.
- Making your own granola: Roving Lemon has a neat idea for making granola in a slow cooker. There are oven prep details as well, but the slow cooker idea is champion.
- Picking the right tomato: There’s a good factsheet on the Choice website about tomatoes. The different varieties, why tomatoes are so often lacking in flavour and how to choose the best tasting tomatoes.
- Organic standard: Standards Australia has just published the first Australian Standard for organic and biodynamic products. This outlines minimum requirements to be met by growers and manufacturers wishing to label their products ‘organic’ and ‘biodynamic’.
Comments
It’s an interesting comment in the food waste article that the inner west and east are big food wasters. I wonder if waste correlates with numbers of stay at home mums or income or anything?
Oh I’d forgotten about “champion” as an adjective! Pang of homesickness right there :)
That oat and coconut pudding sounds deeeeeeeeelicious…
