What I'm eating

  • My current snacking obsession is dried figs.
  • Monday. Breakfats: tweaked the scrambled eggs. Mixed through harissa, oven roasted pumpkin and fresh parsley.
  • Saturday. Richard is making pizza. He bought the pizza dough from the local pizza parlour, but is doing the rest himself.
  • Saturday. Pine mushrooms (like these http://ow.ly/1iyxs ) and Swiss browns on toast.
  • Friday. Breakfast: Indian-style scrambled eggs on toast. Yes, I'm still not bored of it. http://ow.ly/1hmdt

Spring changes at Limes & Lycopene

Posted by kathryn in Blogging

Limes & Lycopene has been well over-due for a spring clean. Launched with the current look and feel, and software about three years ago, it’s been slightly neglected since then – no upgrades or proper site work.

However, over the last couple of weeks Richard and I have been making some changes. Much of the work has been below the surface. Stuff to make Richard’s maintenance of and my posting on the site easier. However, as you’ll see if you’re reading this directly from the web, we’ve also made a few above the surface alterations as well.

Another sidebar

If you look over to the far right, you’ll see Limes & Lycopene has expanded outwards slightly, to include a second sidebar. At the top is information on the current issue of An Honest Kitchen. And just below that you’ll see a new feature – What I’m eating.

What I’m eating

In the past I’ve posted days and weeks of food diaries, showing what I eat. These have always been popular. So I’ve added a feed, via Twitter, showing what I’m eating on a regular basis. I’ll post descriptions, pictures when I can, or links to the recipes I’m using. It won’t be absolutely everything I eat – as I’m not always at my computer and am certainly not always working – but enough to hopefully be useful.

If you’re a Twitter user you can also follow this feed through the Twitter name @ LimesLycopene. Note, this is separate from my regular Twitter account (@ KathrynElliott) and will only be used for What I Eat posts.

Re-organising categories

The other major work I’ve been doing is re-factoring the categories, so they are more useful and a better reflection of what I write about on Limes & Lycopene:

  • I’ve added in categories for the seasons
  • I’ve also added in categories for the major food groups – ie Meat, Fish, Grains, Nuts & Seeds and so on
  • There’s now a general Recipes category which includes all my recipes.
  • Another addition is the Easier Eating category which includes all the posts about making it easier to eat well.
  • Facts and theory have gone into the Nutrition category
  • Discussion of food labeling issues, advertising and food manufacturers are now in the Labels & Advertising category, while there’s also an Ethics & Sustainability group.

I haven’t quite finished this changeover yet.

Super Natural Recipe Search

Down the bottom you’ll see an icon for Heidi’s wonderful Super Natural Recipe Search engine – so you can look up more delicious, whole food recipes.

Skribit

The only other major change is that I’ve removed Skribit. Since first starting Limes & Lycopene my working life has changed enormously. I’m now co-running my own clinic, have regular writing work and am co-author of an eMagazine. This is all wonderful work that I absolutely love to bits.

But it has also left me with slightly less time for blogging. And in the course of thinking about Limes & Lycopene and the changes I was making, I’ve realised that Skribit just wasn’t working for me and very few readers were using it.

Anyway, I hope you like the changes I’ve made. If you encounter any problems, then let me know as there are probably a few bugs that still need to be ironed out.

Thanks as ever for reading

Well done to both of you on the Limes & Lycopene revamp – the additions are great and I know just how long these ‘under the surface’ changes take.

The twitter food feed is a great idea. I hope you’ll keep telling us about what you’re cooking and eating as @KathrynElliott too (it would be strange to have you ‘virtually’ split in two with regards to out food chats!)

Nancy 22 September, 2009

I’ve just signed up to follow @LimesLycopene on Twitter; I’m always pestering other people about what they’re eating (for information AND inspiration), so look forward to seeing regular updates!

kathryn 22 September, 2009

That’s a good point Sophie, about putting the new feed through @KathrynElliott. I wonder if I can set up an automatic re-tweet. It’s all getting a bit virtual isn’t it!

Hello Nancy. Thanks for your enthusiasm and lovely message. I love seeing what other people eat as well – I always learn something.

Sam 22 September, 2009

Thanks Kathryn for always providing an interesting read :)

Ricki 22 September, 2009

Looks great, Kathryn. And since I don’t even know what Skribit is, I guess I won’t miss it!! ;)

johanna 23 September, 2009

that twitter food feed is great – I bought some fuji apples yesterday and they aren’t as good as they were – finally a good use for twitter – and love the new categories by the season

Mallika 28 September, 2009

Oh wow! Changes and a new e-mag. All fantastic Kathryn.
