What I'm eating

  • Saturday. Iku lunch today: tofu burger w/ steamed veg, pickled red cabbage & beetroot, & chickpea w/ beetroot. Plus they're amazing dressing
  • Thurs late lunch: Pad Thai with tofu and double the vegetables.
  • Hungry all morning & knew lunch was going to be late. Had half a tin of white beans, a banana, a peach & square of Beetrotinger cake.
  • Thurs breakfast: rye and pumpkin seed toast again. One w/ white bean paste / dip & t'other w/ marmalade. Plus some pineapple.
  • Made kind of polenta pie for Tues dinner. Polenta top & bottom, w/ filling of lentils & silverbeet cooked in tomato.Topped w/ cheese & baked

Today's quiz: do any of these foods contain water?

Following last week’s quick quizzes on carbs and fibre – today I want to know if any of these foods contain water?

  1. bread
  2. milk
  3. pumpkin
  4. lamb
  5. tofu
  6. broccoli
  7. apples
  8. olive oil
  9. butter
  10. salmon
  11. bananas
  12. rice
  13. hazelnuts
  14. chickpeas
  15. sultanas

All of them, with the exception of the olive oil (assuming it’s pure), contain water.

this is really interesting. i’m inclined to go with the commenters above, but it’s hard to imagine there being much water in rice or hazelnuts… it must be such a tiny amount!

Well done everyone, you all got it right. ALL of the foods above except olive oil have water in them. The quantity of water varies enormously. Broccoli and milk are almost 90 percent water, while uncooked rice and chickpeas are about 11 percent and hazelnuts a measly 5 percent.
