What do you need to eat well?
Posted by kathryn in Blogging
A question for you today – do you eat well and if not what would help you improve your diet?
I’m not checking up on who’s having their vegies! At the moment I’m working on some better content for this site. I want to make it easier to access the information and resources you need to have a good diet.
So, my question is – what do you need to eat well?
- How do you like to access information? Do you want it in different formats?
- Are there any sites or online tools you’ve used and liked?
- What’s missing from Limes & Lycopene that would help you to eat well?
- Do you want more specific information, or do general rules help?
- Do you use the recipes on Limes & Lycopene and if not, why not?
- What lets your diet down?
What would make it easier for you to eat well? Leave your thoughts in the comments below – it would be great to get some discussion going on this topic.

i think i do eat well!
what helps me to eat well on L&L:
lists of what’s in season
recipes and links to recipes (don’t know if i’ve ever used any of your recipes Kathryn… but i plan to!)
general reminders of different fruits/veggies and how to serve them
nutritional facts and figures often go over my head so i often don’t take too much notice of them UNLESS it’s something that i’m specifically interested in, if that makes sense.
Okay, so it’s the food and how to use it information you find most useful Lindsey?
I appriciate the simple but powerful messages. The two rules I’ve got from this site that I use in meal planning are:
*the plate rule 50% veg, 25% carbs 25% protein and
*plan fruit into your day
I would like to see a quick ’what’s in season’ box near the top of the page. I would also like diagrams as well as words to explain concepts where possible. The healthy eating pyramid for example is so engrained in my head, that it takes a real shift to use the visualising portions on a plate method – the problem with the pyramid that it focus of number of portions, but visually ignores that carbs are much more dense that veg
Honestly Kathryn, I love your site just as it is and if I were to ask myself what do I need to eat well or better the only answer I can come up with is “self-discipline”. Some days it is so easy to perform tasks and eat well, other times lack of motivation and purpose lead to poor eating and overeating. And I am very aware of of my behaviour the whole time!
I really loved your 31 days of energy boosting tips. It was like having my own personal trainer encouraging me to do positive things for my health and well being every day. Some days I still refer to your list.
What really interests me is learning about certain foods and their role in assisting and preventing illness and disease. You already do this but just letting you know I really value this info.
As for recipes, I haven’t made any from L&L or other sources in quite a while. I am not viewing your posts for recipe ideas but it is fun to read them just the same. I would consider though making recipes using very different but healthy ingredients such as “quinoa”.
L&L is a terrific blog, keep it up Kathryn.
Hi Kathryn
Your blog is really interesting and awesome , I’m learning a from it. I still need to explore you wonderful blog and need to learn more. Will comeback to learn more.
Have nice day.
yep food and how to use it!
Thanks Naomi, Lindsey and Mariana – it’s really good for me to know what you’ve found useful on Limes & Lycopene, along with other features you’d appreciate. I’ll add your thoughts into my current planning.
Shivapriya, thanks for visiting – glad you’re enjoying Limes & Lycopene.
Hi Kathryn
I’ve only just discovered your website today, while searching for information about creating a healthy breakfast cereal.
It’s such a fantastic website, and fantastic resource. Thank you!
I love the format, the writing is clear, and I love that you’re Australian – makes it culturally and seasonally relevant.
One thing I really liked was the list of fruit and veg in season now. Do you know any Australian cookbooks or websites (or is it on this one?) that list recipes by season? ie Summer recipes in Australia, using ingredients that are in season right now. I would be keen to see something like this.
julie
Hi there Julie, thank you for your feedback. You know I’m not sure of any sites which list recipes by season. They do a little bit of that on the Sydney Markets website with the seasonal produce guides – but it’s limited.
At the moment I don’t categorise my recipes by season – but I really should. It’s a great idea, and one I haven’t thought of. One of my plans for the next few weeks is to re-jig my categories in the right-hand sidebar. And I’ll add a seasonal recipe section to that.
Great thinking Julie.
