Coffee on a hot day

Posted by kathryn in Seasonal Health and Food & Health Myths

It’s a beautiful sunny day in Sydney. I’m just back from having a morning coffee at my local cafe, where the barista told me something interesting: people are more likely to have skim milk in their coffee on hot days.

I’m not sure if this coffee change is Sydney-specific, but it does fit in with other, more health-aware behaviour changes I notice at this time of year:

  • September to November is one of the busiest periods for me in clinic. It’s a time when people re-focus on their health and want to lose weight, have more energy and kick-start a new health regime.
  • During winter my morning walking route can feel a bit lonely. In contrast over the past week it’s been positively humming, full of people walking, jogging and exercising their dogs.
  • Theres’s a lot more personal trainers around and they’re MUCH busier.
  • At the first sign of sunshine everyone’s out in shorts, t-shirts and sundresses, almost despite the temperature.
  • Business is booming at the juice bars.

What are the other health-related signs of Spring you’ve noticed in the last couple of weeks?
