31 Days: make a cup of tea

Posted by kathryn in Uncategorized

Today’s task in 31 Days to Better Energy is very, very easy – it’s simply to make a cup of tea.

How does tea help your energy levels?

There are many benefits to drinking tea, both normal and herbal. Herbal teas like peppermint and chamomille can calm and soothe your digestion, while black tea and green tea are full of antioxidants.

As I’ve noted before during the 31 Days, you will have more energy if you are well hydrated. Tea doesn’t dehydrate you, so it’s a great drink to include in your day, as part of your liquid intake.

However, making a cup of tea during the day, can also provide you with a mini break from your work, the phone, the computer or your family. Taking a few minutes to make a cup of tea and concentrating on that one task alone can clear your head and give you a few minutes mental break from the busyness of your day.

Today’s task

Today your task is to make a cup of tea and use this time as a break from your day. Concentrate on what you are doing and don’t do anything else. It’s easy to get impatient or nip away while the kettle’s boiling, but resist that temptation. If you have a favourite cup or teapot, then use them and spend your time focussed on making the best cup of tea possible.

Treat this as your few minutes, to step away from what you’re doing, take break and have a moments to yourself to clear your head. As you walk back to your desk, or continue on with what you’re doing, note how you feel.

August is 31 Days to Better Energy month here at Limes & Lycopene. If you’d like to know more or view the full range of tasks so far, then take a look at the introductory post.

I was enjoying my cup of tea this morning until I spilled it all over my keyboard :-(

Oh, also, the links in your rss feeds appear to be a bit broken right now. I see this URL for this particular entry: http://mongrel/blog/2007/08/27/31-days-make-a-cup-of-tea

Bugger, daveg.

I love green tea, and sometimes I drop in a teaspoon of honey. Tasty! But I wonder if this impacts on the benefits of the tea? Kathryn? Anyone?

This is a great tip Kathryn! I am very guilty of squeezing something else into that time it takes to boil the kettle!!

Thanks..I will try to clear my head in this time! :-)

Well I’m sitting here reading comments with a big pot of fresh lemon, ginger and mint tea. I drink this most days and am also guilty of trying to fit something in while the kettle boils – but I took my own advice this morning.

Daveg, that’s such a shame about your tea – kind of spoils the moment of calm you’ve created as well. Thanks for the info about my RSS feed – that’s most strange. I shall get the IT department (ie Richard) onto it! Appreciate you letting me know.

Paul, I don’t think the honey would affect the antioxidants in the tea. It does of course mean you’re having a few extra kilojoules. Therefore it comes back to how much you’re having. If you’re on a ten cup a day green tea habit, then you’re also having ten teaspoons of honey. If you exercise regularly, this is almost certainly not a problem. It can be useful to watch it though.

Thanks for the feedback Kathryn. I also just had a black tea. Nice change fromt the traditional afternoon green tea which I’m used to.
