31 Days: cross something off your to do list

Posted by kathryn in Work life integration

Today’s task in 31 Days to Better Energy is to cross something off your to do list.

Why?

Sometimes the sheer weight of all the things we have to do can get us down. There’s work, the kids, the housework, tax returns, organising your paperwork, RSVPing to invitations . . . the list goes on. It can feel way too hard and like a burden on your back. These tasks nag away at the back of your head, bringing you down and preventing you from fully relaxing and letting go.

However, checking off a chore from your to-do list gives you a rush of energy and can clear your head. Even little things can feel like achievements.

Today’s task

Today’s task therefore is to cross something off your to do list. This can be big, or it can be really, really small – just complete one task, so you can get rid of it.

If you don’t have a to do list, then spend 5 minutes brainstorming, writing down all the stuff you can think of. Clearing all those items out of your head and onto paper, can be a relief in itself. Pick the smallest, easiest task and do that one.

I’m planning to clear two tasks from my personal “to do” list today. One is to cancel my paper delivery, for when I’m on holiday, and the other is to clear my out-of-control pile of handwashing. The latter in particular, will make me feel better and get rid of a source of annoyance and frustration.

What’s the one thing you’re going to cross off your “to do” list today?

August is 31 Days to Better Energy month here at Limes & Lycopene. If you’d like to know more or view the full range of tasks so far, then take a look at the introductory post.

hey Kathryn, i crossed something off my list last night, not intentionally though. but you’re absolutely right, it brings a definite sense of relief and accomplishment, no matter how small the job.

Well done Lindsey. I almost took a photo of my empty washing basket, I was that pleased!
