31 Days: plan a holiday

Posted by kathryn in Work life integration

It’s a rainy Sunday here in Sydney, what better time to to plan a holiday? So that’s your task in 31 Days to Better Energy.

Why?

I booked myself a holiday this week. Taking advantage of some cheap flights, I’ve organised a week up in sunny Queensland. It isn’t a long time since my last holiday and I’m certainly not tired and stressed out. However, since booking my trip I’ve noticed an improvement in my energy levels. I’m excited about my trip and have been thinking about what I’m going to do. I already have a couple of books put aside to take with me. I’m not on holiday yet, but I feel better knowing one is on the horizon.

While Australia is supposedly the land of the “sickie”, we seem to be working harder and harder. I regularly see clients who haven’t had a holiday for a couple of years, because they haven’t had the time. We seem to view holidays as a luxury, when acually they’re a necessity. Regular time off from work, and from the general busyness of life is important – for both mental and physical health.

Today’s task

We’re nearly two-thirds of the way through the 31 Days to Better Energy and today’s task is to plan a holiday. Take a look through your diary, when in the next few months could you take some time off? If you can’t manage a couple of weeks, then why not a long weekend? Take a Friday off work and head off on a mini-break, while everyone else is on holiday.

Your holiday doesn’t have to be expensive – Richard and I have regularly had holidays at home. We close the study door and spend the week sleeping in, going to the movies, reading and enjoying being out and about in Sydney.

Spend some time today planning a holiday and then book the time off from work on Monday – you’ll feel more energised if you do.

August is 31 Days to Better Energy month here at Limes & Lycopene. If you’d like to know more or view the full range of tasks so far, then take a look at the introductory post.
