What do you want from Limes & Lycopene?
Posted by kathryn in Blogging and Q & A Thursday
I’m starting Q & A Thursday this week by sending a question out to you. I’ve always wanted Limes & Lycopene to be a useful resource, but I’m conscious that what I blog about may not be what you want to hear about. So I’m throwing the question out: what would make Limes & Lycopene more useful for you?
We’re working on some big changes to Limes & Lycopene over the next few months and I’d really like to hear what you want from this site. I’m interested to hear all perspectives, but some areas you might like to think about:
- Topics: am I covering the topics you want to hear about? What about the variety of subjects – too many or too few? Is there anything I’m missing out?
- Types of posts: which style of posts do you like the best? Do you want more longer, in-depth articles, or are the quicktips and how to cook posts more useful? What about the health and food news I post about?
- Recipes: do you use the recipes? Do you want me to continue including recipes, or are there enough other sites providing good food ideas?
- Q & A Thursday: are you enjoying Q & A Thursday? Does it work being on one day, or would you prefer readers’ questions to be sprinkled among my posts over the rest of the week?
- Blog features: are there any features I could add to Limes & Lycopene to make it more useful for you?
- Posting frequency: I try to post at least once or twice a day – is this enough, too little or too much?
- Look and feel: what do you think of the new look and feel? What about the font? Is it easy to find the information you’re looking for? At the moment I’m considering changing the categories I use – I don’t thinkthey’re as helpful as they could be – do you agree?
The Rules: I’m borrowing a bit from Problogger here, but you’re welcome to leave any thoughts, wishes, questions and opinions – all are appreciated. However, I would ask you to be constructive in your feedback and criticism.
While I don’t promise that every suggestion will be acted on, I will definitely read and consider everything. Thanks in advance, I’m looking forward to reading our responses!

My favorite segment is your Q&A Thursday because it is a chance to hear what other people are interested in and your response. It’s very interactive and our family looks forward to it.
I think the new look and feel is a great improvement. The font and minimalistic approach is classy.
One thing I would like to see is a “Myth Busters” sort of regular post, where you explore some sort of Nutritional/Lifestyle/Advertising/Alternate-Therapy myth or Woo-Woo. No shortage of material there and is complementary to your “About Me” description.
Have your thought of monetizing the blog to help cover costs? I don’t imagine banner advertising would suit your style…what about a Seasonal Diary or Calendar for 2008?
Anyway, its a great opportunity to say thanks for your enjoyable Aussie content.
Hi Kathryn.
I like reading about food ethics and whole foods and all things vegan and vegetarian. Keep up the great work!
Fiona
Kathryn, I have really enjoyed your site and have found heaps of fantastic, useful information. I particularly like the recipes and/or links to recipes, and have made quite a few over the past few months- I’ve hit one of those ‘I’m sick of making the same old things’ phases and have appreciated easy access to good vego recipes.
I also appreciate your links to other sites, your attention to detail and your commitment to providing factual information.
Keep up the good work!
Andrew, glad to hear you like the Q & A Thursday segment – I really enjoying writing it too. I like your idea of a myth-busting segment, as you say it fits in with my general blog ethos. Regarding monetization, I’m keen to keep the main part of the blog uncluttered by adverts, but some of the future features will have both a free and a paid-for component.
Fiona, thanks for your feedback. I’ve been unsure about whether to continue with the food ethics info – so thanks for letting me know about your interest in that side.
Caroline, also thanks for your feedback. I’m glad to hear you’ve been using the recipes. I know exactly what you mean about being in a cooking lull – they hit me regularly. It’s one of the reasons I first started looking at food blogs – to get new inspiration.
i love your new look. i also think the idea of pay for content would be good…if the quality is there, (which it is for me!) then i’d gladly subscribe or however you do it. esp if you can keep it uncommercial in the sense of being tied to a big retailer (ie vitamin pills or whatever) – personally that makes me suspicious of the info. since discovering your site i’ve been here almost daily! oh and i saw you in ’’Life’’ magazine the other day…about those red berries. i think you do a wonderful job. congratulations.
Keltie, thanks so much for your lovely comment. While future plans for this site do include some income strategies – including adverts and some paid-for features – I’m very keen that it:
I don’t accept freebies or gifts for review and am very cautious about tying myself to an one company. More information on this will be in the monthly newsletter I’ve just started.
The Life etc columns are a lot of fun – you can download each issue’s Ten Minute Kitchen from their website. The latest one is on chocolate.
