Cooking at home with Jamie
Posted by kathryn in Health News and Vegetables
Last week Jamie Oliver’s new cooking programme started on Channel 10, called Jamie At Home . I must admit to being a big fan of Jamie Oliver, from his style of cooking, through to the work he’s done in the UK to improve school dinners, plus the Fifteen Foundation. Moreover, unlike a lot of TV celebrity chefs, Jamie Oliver’s recipes are ones that you can actually make at home.
Last week’s programme was a corker – a handful of beautiful recipes that were easy to make, used fresh ingredients and simple, yet gutsy, flavour combinations. Vegetables were a key ingredient in all.
I wanted to make and eat everything and this time I’ll be watching it with pen and paper in hand.
Programme: Jamie At Home , Channel 10, Thursdays 7.30pm

Cooking at Home with Jamie has really struck a chord in our family too. This guy always seems to be so timely and relevant with his productions.
I agree with you regarding the food in this show. It all looks magnificent, fresh and very achievable. Our vegie garden is getting some extra attention now.
Of interest is that Australia seems to be getting this show about 10 months before UK…this surprised me a bit.
Hi there Andrew, yes I saw that we were the first to be getting the programme – not sure why either. But it is making me want to start growing a few vegies in the garden. I particularly loved the strawberry recipes this week.
Jamie’s new show is fantastic!
I started my vegie garden earlier this year and this show is an inspiration to what I want to achieve in my home life. Hopefully it encourages us all to take personal responsibility for our local lives to make a global impact.
Peter Cundall and Josh Byrne on ABCs Gardening Australia are also two inspiring people on TV in the area of home food production and organic gardening.
(Unfortunatly, after only two weeks, Channel 10 has decided to skip a week of programming. This happens time and time again with many programmes – not only on Ch10. This is very frustrating!!!!)
Please please confirm this is only a one week skip – we just settled in to watch and now I have a truly disappointed 6 year old who eas so enthusiastic about his new interest! As was I…
I agree with Natalie. We came across the show the first week by accident but certainly tuned in to watch it last week. My family and I got all ready to tune in tonight to find it’s not on. Very, very disappointed! Hope that it is on next week. It is a fun cooking show. I am 13 and enjoy the recipes.
I find Jamies recipes extremely adaptable and inspiring. I absolutely love this new series. The combination of organic gardening and his refreshing, straight up style of cooking works brilliantly. I’m definitely up for trying the strawberries in tiered hanging baskets.
Very disappointed its not on tonight – my 4 month old had even gone to bed early for the occasion! Hanging out for next week – and the dvd.
Glenn, Natalie, Siobhan, Bianca – I was there with you all last night, in front of the TV at 7.30pm, notebook in hand, ready for another hour of Jamie. Very disappointing indeed.
I’m going to contact Channel 10 today, to find out what’s happening and I’ll post more, once I find out. There’s no email contact address on the Channel 10 website (which seems bizarre), so I’ll have to call them later today.
I’ve posted an update on Jamie at Home here.
yes love the Jamie at home show.. i have a question?
if any one can help..
does anyone know where i might be able to find recipes from his ‘at home with jamie’ thurs night, that was on a few weeks ago. (AUS) particularly the roast he did with red onions and balsamic and pork.. it looked fantastic!! i am dying to make it..
Hi there Janine, as far as I know, the recipes from this show have not been published anywhere yet. The show is being screened in Australia first, ten months ahead of its scheduled UK screening. In the UK at the moment Jamie Oliver has another programme on and is promoting another cookery book. You could try logging onto his website and putting in a request on the forum?
Just wondering if anyone knows what song plays during the intro and over the end credits? Thanks.
Olivia, I’m really not sure, I’ll have to re-listen. If anyone else knows, then please leave a comment.
Can anyone provide me with the recipe for the homemade tomato sauce on a recent episode of Jamie at Home?
I don’t Louise, not sure if anyone else can help you? The book will be coming out later in the year apparently (I think I read October), although you could also check Jamie’s website and maybe post a comment on his forum?
for Louise
i managed to scribble the ketchup ingredients down after seeingthe show last friday in NZ.
as follows, (has been hard to read my writing)
sweat off some onions(2 big ones maybe)
-smash
fennel seeds?
coriander seeds
4 cloves
-chop
2 thumbs of ginger
4 cloves of garlic
1 or 2 chilis
-place into a large frypan/saucepan with onions and
pepper
salt
1kg ripe toms
basil storks (hold leaves till last)
1L pasatta
250ml Red wine vinegar
200g brown sugar
boil
cook out for 1/2 and hour
add basil leaves, stir in, take off heat.
puree with a stick blender or the like
pass through a fine sieve into sterilized bottles
far from exact but it will give you a ball park idea.
Thank you so much Glen, for getting all that information down. It sounds like a lovely recipe, especailly with all the spices in. Good scribbling.
