November: what's in season
Posted by kathryn in Shopping Basket, A Balanced Diet, Fruit and Vegetables
Hmm, already seven days into the month and I’m finally getting to the list of what’s in season at the moment. Sorry folks, better late than never . . .
All the “in season” lists I’ve seen so far have listed bananas, but price-wise they’re still rivalling gold bullion, so I’m not including them. Surely they have to come down in price some time soon?
Fruit:- Apples (Lady Williams)
- Apricots are coming into season, although they’re still exy
- Avocadoes
- Blueberries are coming down in price (I bought a punnet for $3.99 on the weekend)
- Cherries are coming into season, although they’re at their best December / January
- Grapefruit
- Kiwifruit
- Lemons
- Mangoes are not at their peak, but the season has started and they’ve been cheap
- Melons are coming into season (rockmelon, honeydew and water melon)
- Mulberries
- Nectarines are coming into season, although they’re still expensive and will get better December / January
- Oranges (Valencias)
- Pawpaw and papaya
- Peaches are coming into season, although they’re still expensive and will get better December / January
- Pineapples
- Plums are coming into season, although they’ll get better and cheaper over the next month.
- Strawberries are still not at their peak, but they’ve been a good price and reasonable quality
- Artichokes (globe)
- Asian greens (bok choy etc)
- Asparagus
- Beans (green beans and broad beans)
- Broccoli
- Carrots
- Chillies
- Cucumber
- Eggplant
- Lettuce
- Mushrooms
- Peas
- Potatoes
- Silverbeet
- Snowpeas&sugar snap peas
- Spinach
- Spring onions
- Sweetcorn
- Sweet potato
- Tomatoes are coming into season
- Watercress
- Zucchini
- Zucchini flowers
